The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) is a center-left political party in the Federated States of Gapla. The party is characterized by its commitment to progressive liberalism, social democracy, democratic reform, and modernization of Gaplan institutions.
The party was originally founded as the People's New Socialist Party (PNSP) in 2019 before undergoing ideological and organizational changes. In 2022, the party was renamed the People's Liberal Party (PLP), reflecting a shift away from democratic socialism toward social liberalism and a regulated market economy. In 2026, following a major internal reorganization under party leader Max Dépelteau, the party adopted its current name, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), to better represent its modern political identity.
The PLP currently holds one seat on the Provisional Government. The party represents itself as a constructive reform party, supporting cooperation with other political movements while advocating for strong democratic institutions, modern governance, and the development of durable policies that serve all Gaplans.
History
People's New Socialist Party (2019–2022)
The party was founded by Chelsea Chen in 2019 as the People's New Socialist Party (PNSP).
People's Liberal Party (2022–2026)
In 2022, the party underwent an ideological transformation and was renamed the People’s Liberal Party (PLP).
Progressive Liberal Party (2026–present)
In 2026 the People's Liberal Party (PLP) underwent a major reorganization under the leadership of Max Dépelteau. Dépelteau became the leader of the new party and its sole provisional governor within the Gaplan Provisional Government.
Ideology
The party is generally described as center-left, social liberal, progressive, reformist, civic nationalist, and modernist. The party combines progressive social policies with support for regulated capitalism and strong independent institutions.
The party's platform emphasizes that active citizenship, political cooperation, public service, and reasonable policies are absolutely necessary in order to allow Gapla to develop and survive the test of time. The party openly supports cooperation with other democratic and reformist movements when such collaboration is in the interests of Gaplan society.

Social Policy
The party supports an expansive interpretation of individual rights and personal liberty with the party supporting the legal recognition and protection of same-sex marriage, abortion rights, access to euthanasia under regulated conditions, legal gender self-identification, drug reform and legalization of certain substances, and protection against discrimination.
The party supports criminalizing hate speech and considers protection of vulnerable communities a responsibility of government.
Law Enforcement and Justice
The party supports a balance between public safety and civil liberties. The party opposes police brutality and misuse of authority, supporting accountability mechanisms while rejecting anti-police movements that call for the elimination of public safety institutions.
The party continues to support professional and community-oriented policing, recognizing that institutional change is possible without dismantling existing law enforcement mechanisms.
The party believes that security institutions must maintain public trust through transparency and accountability.
Equality Policy
The party supports equal treatment under law and opposes discrimination based on identity or personal characteristics.
The party opposes affirmative action policies, arguing that government policy should focus on equal opportunity and individual merit rather than preferential treatment based on group identity.
This position has been considered one of the party's most conservative compared with other progressive movements.
Economic Policy
The party supports a mixed-market economy combining private enterprise with government regulation and social protections.
The party supports market capitalism, strong consumer protections, labour rights, government regulation where necessary, social welfare programs, and public investment in national development.
The party opposes full state ownership of the economy, central planning, and communism.
The party believes that markets are effective tools for innovation but require responsible oversight and regulation to ensure equity and stability
Government Reform and National Development
As a political movement within a developing nation, the party places strong emphasis on institution-building. The party supports the continued goal of the Provisional Government of Gapla of working towards a permanent constitution with transparent government operations, distinct separation of powers, and strong individual rights and freedoms.
Citizenship and National Identity
The party supports the development of a strong national civic identity based upon democracy, service, inclusion, and responsibility.
The party supports strong civic education, programs for citizens to directly participate in governance, and preservation of Gaplan history and culture.
Foreign Affairs
The party supports a foreign policy focused on diplomatic engagement, international cooperation, and building credibility and rapport among other nations.
The party believes that Gapla's international image can be built and strengthened through a strong foreign policy and through responsible and respectable governance domestically.
